It’s particularly special when we can connect with a fellow founder whose personal experience also inspired them to help others navigate the world of assisted reproduction. Meet Jennifer Maas, founder of the Law Office of Jennifer P. Maas, PLLC!
Why did you start the Law Office of Jennifer P. Maas, PLLC?
To my surprise, I was diagnosed with infertility when trying to start my family and turned to altruistic surrogacy to have a child – with my amazing sister carrying my daughter. Although I had been practicing law for well over a decade by that point, that personal experience changed everything for me. I realized that in addition to medical professionals, lawyers played a big role in helping people form and secure their families. It became clear to me that when people were dealing with aspects of their life that were so personal and fraught with emotion as I was, not only was good lawyering needed to help them navigate the legal part of the family-building process, but there was huge need for compassionate representation and personal attention. I felt that I could provide that for people.
What do you love about your job?
I love being able to guide people through their legal process by taking them from a state of confusion and frustration when they first come to me, being a teammate to them throughout their journey, and then getting to see them through to the other side. It’s personally very rewarding to be able to help people through what is such an important aspect of their lives.
What are you most excited about for 2022-2023?
I am excited to see more people being able to take advantage of the laws in New York that are some of the most inclusive and family-friendly in the country. I am hopeful that more states will move in that direction.
